Ben Fisher curated and emceed a fabulous night of comedy, LaughingX, a Comedy Show at Arantxa Araujo's LuminXspace, a ChaShaMa exhibition space she has so generously developed as a collaborative venue for Latinx artists, in support of justice for immigrants. This was on Thursday, almost immediately after an impactful Rise and Resist action on immigration at Grand Central. CuerpXs De Luz has also featured performance art and dramatic readings. Art heals, reminds us that it is up to us to build resilient communities, and that we need to find and share joy, especially in these difficult times, to recharge our spirits. This was an exceptional evening of laughter, love, light, and color. Suni Reyes, Melissa Rocha, Alex Carbaño, Jocelyn Chia, Xazmin Garza, Gabriel Pacheco, Gabe Gonzalez, and Ben brought the house down and raised funds for R.A.I.C.E.S.

Rise and Resist gathered for its 20th silent vigil in support of immigration justice yesterday, at Grand Central Terminal. These regular protests have grown in strength, as allied organizations, like Planned Parenthood, and passersby join their voices to Rise and Resist activists. Over 200 activists and allies participated in this action. The objective is to keep the conversation about immigration justice alive and vibrant, inspire others to participate, and to send a message to political leaders, the administration, and its enforcers, and that public opposition to dangerous and unjust policies, including the dehumanization and vilification of immigrants, is powerful and will not blow over. |
